Ch4 08
Well then, I guess that’s an amiable deal. Just tell Lark why you can summon ice with the wave of your hand and he’ll make good on all those things you don’t like. What’s that, Hass? You’re not willing to tell him? Well now, that seems a little odd, doesn’t it? I bet it’s just because she doesn’t have a license to practice magic. That’s probably it.
Totes.
Suddenly, running away is a swell idea.
Is it a case of “they only teach…” or a case of “Guardians are forbidden to use other forms of magic”? Because if Hass is related to an archmage, she could claim to have had some teaching before she signed up to become a Guardian.
Now, it’s been indicated that Hass’s ice thing is something outside of sanctioned magic, but would Lark know that?
… and she does not do healing shells…
that should be spells
I don’t know, TDO, healing shells might be a pretty lucrative endeavor. π Gives a whole new meaning to the three sea shells… o.O
π
Isn’t Lark’s life Spartan enough?
it says spells?
Congratulations Hass, you have given him a weapon for when he really wants you to do something.
uhmmm, i wonder if they ever will sleep together, or if its one of those relationships
The odds are against them ever doing it, but Daisy Mae married Little Abner after 20 years of trying to [and was age 19 1/2 at the wedding]. But it likely went poorly for the strip over the longer run, as Little Abner soon had a “little” brother, named Tiny [aged 15 1/2] who took over the romance roles that Little Abner used to fill. So our writer will likely be advised to string out the courtship for as long as possible. At least I would argue against buying flowers at this time.
A very easy lie to get out of that situation for Hass is to tell him that she is the daughter of Keenar the Venerable and she learned a bit of offensive magic before becoming a guardian.
From Hass’ reaction, there is no easy way of any sort [that she knows of] for Hass to get out of the situation. Now what the situation is very up in the air. It has something to do with ice magic, but…
Did Hass promise Mom that she would never use ice magic? Dad would likely not be able to protect her from Mom finding out.
Is ice magic reserved for virgins? sluts? Either way Lark might be a major problem. He seems to know at least most of what is going on here, but doesn’t really care. But if the powers that be find out, his opinion may not matter.
There is talk about Hass being/becoming a sorceress. To become a [Lark’s] guardian, she may have violated some pretty serious rules about ice magic.
Whatever. Hass is acting like “If I am found out, I’m dead, or wish I were. I’ve got to do as told.”
There was a discussion on Hass’ ice magic in comments a while back.
Basically, from what I recall, most magic involves asking one or more of the Gods – in a very precise manner, think of it like making a wish with an evil genie – to perform a miracle on your behalf. Technically, speaking, this means that all magic is divine magic…
…except that it’s not. Hass’s ice magic is something different… and forbidden. She’s apparently been careless enough with it that some of her friends know (possibly ones that assume it’s just a different branch of the sanctioned forms of magic), but if someone with the knowledge to identify what she’s REALLY doing finds out, she could be in a lot of trouble.
Note that I’m saying this from memory, so I may have misremembered.
Gold star!
